Sarah Sanders Says What Everybody Else Has Been Too Afraid to Say About Kate Steinle’s Verdict

It’s going to take a long time to come to terms with the disastrous verdict in San Francisco this week that said Kate Steinle’s killer was not guilty despite admitting to killing Kate in broad daylight while she walked with her father.

The defense claimed that Steinle’s killer, an illegal immigrant deported five times, shot her on accident.  That’s obviously ridiculous but it’s also irrelevant. He killed her. He should be convicted of manslaughter. But, it’s San Francisco.  The law literally doesn’t matter there.

Here’s what went down yesterday.

From The Hill:

A San Fransisco jury has acquitted an undocumented immigrant who was charged with the murder of Kate Steinle.

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate was acquitted of the murder charge following the 2015 shooting, according to the San Fransisco Chronicle.

Steinle was fatally wounded while walking the San Francisco waterfront in 2015 by Garcia Zarate, who had been deported to Mexico on five previous occasions. She was 32 years old.

Undocumented. What is wrong with some of these writers? He was “undocumented” because he’s not supposed to be here. They act like his papers got lost in the mail or something. Good lord.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders is one of the many Americans who still can’t believe what happened with this verdict.

From The Daily Caller:

Here is her full statement:

Yesterday’s verdict in San Francisco underscores the danger to public safety when our Nation fails to enforce its laws.  Kate Steinle was killed by an illegal immigrant and convicted felon who had been deported from the United States five times.  He, and countless other criminal illegal immigrants like him, should never be allowed to threaten our citizens.

It’s more important now than ever for Congress to secure our borders and provide the resources, including more ICE officers, needed to deport criminal illegal aliens and to finally stop sanctuary city policies that cause needless loss of innocent life.  Politicians who fail to address these needs share responsibility for preventable crimes committed against innocent Americans.

Had San Francisco enforced our Nation’s immigration laws, the Steinle family would be celebrating this holiday with all of their loved ones.

She’s right.

San Francisco isn’t safe.  It’s a city that clearly puts liberal ideology before the safety of the citizens.  San Francisco only had to do one thing to save Kate Steinle’s life.  All they had to do was hold Jose Zarate when ICE asked them to. Instead, they released him onto the streets to kill Kate.

From The Hill:

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released a statement Thursday night blasting San Francisco for not cooperating with federal immigration authorities before the deadly shooting, arguing the city could have prevented Steinle’s death.

“San Francisco’s policy of refusing to honor ICE detainers is a blatant threat to public safety and undermines the rule of law,” ICE Deputy Director Tom Homan said in the statement. “This tragedy could have been prevented if San Francisco had simply turned the alien over to ICE, as we requested, instead of releasing him back onto the streets.”

“It is unconscionable that politicians across this country continue to endanger the lives of Americans with sanctuary policies while ignoring the harm inflicted on their constituents,” he added. “Following the conclusion of this case, ICE will work to take custody of Mr. Garcia Zarate and ultimately remove him from the country.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kate’s family. It didn’t have to be this way.
