Gotta love it. Whenever Hollywood types get caught doing something awful, the way to justify it or ameliorate the fallout is to say “it was my addiction” and run off to a pricey rehab in some nice idyllic place.
So now it looks like Harvey Weinstein has jumped aboard that plane, on the way to rehab in Europe.
Harvey Weinstein is boarding a private jet Tuesday night, bound for a rehab center in Europe for sex addiction … sources connected with the former mogul tell TMZ.
We’re told Harvey has decided to take the advice of the people around him and leave immediately. We’re told he will enter a live-in facility and will deal both with sex and other behavioral issues.
Rape is some behavioral issue.
Protip to Weinstein? Rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment are not ‘sex addiction,’ they’re violations of another person and/or crimes.
This is just a little more than being picked up for drugs or a DUI, Harvey, and you may not be able to so easily get away with this excuse.
But Weinstein still thinks he can salvage his career.
He apparently is thinking this will all blow over and he can just come back to his power position in a couple of months. According to TMZ, a source close to Weinstein says that “He wants to come back with fresh, new ideas.”
He and his management team are still in discussions as to what his role with the Weinstein Company will be and he’s hoping to have some unofficial advisory role.
Meanwhile, the Weinstein Company is reportedly seeking to change its name to remove all association so it wouldn’t affect their future product.
And Weinstein’s wife is removing herself from their marriage.
Georgina Chapman issued a statement saying that she felt for the women her husband allegedly abused.
Harvey Weinstein’s wife, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, is leaving him — as more women continue to step forward to accuse the movie mogul of decades of sexual harassment and assault.
Weinstein, 65, and Chapman, 41, married in 2007 and have two children together, ages 7 and 4. Weinstein also has three children from a previous marriage.
“My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time,” Chapman says in a statement to PEOPLE.
Maybe the ‘fresh, new idea’ for Weinstein would be to stay away for awhile. Work on why he’s spent decades allegedly harassing and assaulting women, and get right with his soul.
One also has to wonder if the reason he’s left for the rehab in Europe is the same reason that Roman Polanski left for Europe and never came back. It’s harder for the police to get to you there.
It is not clear yet if the police are looking at any of the cases or if they are within the statute of limitations. Obviously, many of the alleged cases are decades old and would not be. But some could be more recent.
